UGI Celebrated Lohri with a lot of exuberance and fanfare

Lohri was celebrated at Universal Group of Institutions with a lot of exuberance and fanfare. The mood on the campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. Among present on the occasion were Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Chairman, UGI, Dr. Vikas Dhawan, Director UIET, Dr. Kompal Wadhawan, V.Principal DSGCE, Deans and Heads of various departments. Dr. Kompal welcomed the guests on the celebration.

The function started with speech by Mr. Surinder highlighting the importance of the festival of Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter. The programme started with "Lohri Poojan."  Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Chairman UGI, Dr. Vikas Dhawan, Director UIET, Dr. Kompal Wadhawan V.Principal & Convenor Cultural Committee UGI with all other Principals, Deans & HOD’s of various department worshipped 'Dhooni' and groundnuts and sweets were also distributed among the students.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Chairman UGI emphasized on the importance of traditions in life and focused on ‘dhiyaan di lohri’. A colourful programme was conducted on this occasion by Mr. Ravinder Kumar & Mr. Yashpal, in which the students presented dances, Punjabi 'Boliyaan', Punjabi folk songs, Lohri songs. The celebration concluded with the words of Dr. Vikas Dhawan, Director UIET UGI who on the occasion said Lohri festival prompts people to be thankful for God's provisions and to celebrate his creations, its focus on farming. Mrs. Kshipra Gupta Co – convenor UGI extended vote of thanks.
